Self Assessments
Strength's Finder 2.0
Another personality test I took was called Strength Finder 2.0 and was developed the author, Tom Rath. His book and his idea helps people gain a better understanding of what their own strengths are and how to improve them. The Strength Finders Assessment provided me with insight into my own strengths and it also gave me an action-planning guide. After taking the test, I was assigned five primary themes that applied to my personality and strengths. My top themes turned out to be:
· Futuristic
· Arranger
· Adaptability
· Maximizer
· Empathy
Some of Rath’s ideas for actions for all of the themes, and I am going to include some that I found most relevant or attractive with regards to my results:
In addition to being provided my list of strengths, I was also given a guide that was broken down into three parts- Section I: Awareness, Section II: Application, and Section III. Achievement. So I’d like to start by discussing my assigned themes. I have always noticed that I am a futuristic thinker. I often find myself pondering what the future might offer and to be honest, it consumes a great deal of my waking hours. I can see the positive and negative aspect to such a way of thinking, but it is not something I am looking to change about myself. I am a forward-thinking person and I don’t foresee that changing in the near future, no pun intended.
This self- assessment opened my eyes to a new way of analyzing traits and strengths that I was previously aware of. Strengths Finder put my self-outlook into a new perspective that I wasn’t able to see by myself. I now can recognize the value of my own strengths and how those strengths can help me achieve success personally and professionally.

- Be prepared to provide logical support for your futuristic thinking. Your exciting visions of future success will be best received when rooted in real possibility. (Futuristic)
- Musing about the future comes naturally to you. Read articles about technology, science, and research to gain knowledge that will fuel your imagination. (Futuristic)
- If a team needs to be created, make sure you are involved. You recognize talents, skills, and knowledge in people, and that awareness will help you get the right people in the right spot. (Arranger)
- Take on the organization of a big event—a convention, a large party, or a company celebration. (Arranger)
- Don’t let others abuse your inherent flexibility. Though your Adaptability talents serve you well, don’t compromise your long-term success by bending to every whim, desire, and demand of others. Use smart guidelines to help you decide when to flex and when to stand firm. (Adaptability)
- Once you have identified your own greatest talents, stay focused on them. Refine your skills, Acquire new knowledge. Practice. Keep working toward strength in a few areas. (Maximizer)
- Study success. Deliberately spend time with people who have discovered their strengths. The more you understand how marshaling strengths leads to success, the more likely you will be to create success in your own life. (Maximizer)
- Sometimes empathy does not require words at all. A kind gesture may be all someone needs to be reassured. Use your Empathy talents to nonverbally comfort others with a glance, a smile, or a pat on the arm. (Empathy)
